Charles Wood Festival of Music and Summer School
Experience the very best of choral and organ music in Armagh at this year's Charles Wood Festival of Music and Summer School, supported by Ulster Carpets and Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council
DatesSunday, 12 August 2018 to Sunday, 19 August 2018
Brimming with top-quality events and marking two significant musical milestones—the 100th anniversary of Hubert Parry’s death and Leonard Bernstein’s birth—it promises to be a unique and breath-taking week of music-making
The world’s finest choral music will be performed by the Charles Wood Singers, conducted by David Hill, former Chief Conductor of the BBC Singers. Following their successful debut last year, the Charles Wood Girls’ Choir, also supported by Ulster Carpets and Arts & Business NI, will be returning under the guidance of their Founding Director Ian Keatley.
Particularly special highlights will be guest appearances by brilliant finalists, past and present, from the BBC Young Musician Competition which celebrates its 40th anniversary this year, a talk by the world authority on Parry’s life and music, Professor Jeremy Dibble, and a vocal masterclass entitled ‘Tips and Troubleshooting’ by the Royal Opera House’s vocal coach Paul Farrington.
Full details of the programme, which also includes the Northern Ireland International Organ Competition and performances by stars of the National Opera Studio and BBC Proms, mezzo soprano Sinéad O’Kelly and tenor Peter Davoren, are available at www.charleswoodsummerschool
