Skiffie Worlds & Strangford Lough Festival
Skiffie Worlds arrives in Strangford Lough from the 24-30 July, come and watch up to 50 of these beautiful coastal rowing boats battle it out in this exciting international sport
DatesSunday, 24 July 2016 to Saturday, 30 July 2016
Strangford Lough are delighted to have been selected by the Scottish Coastal Rowing Association as the venue for Skiffie Worlds 2016. They tell us it was because of our great enthusiasm for the St Ayles’ Skiff, the boating infrastructure and the Lough’s sheltered marine waters. However, we suspect the Guinness and the craic may also have played a part. Picturesque Strangford Lough certainly has a long maritime history of boatbuilding, sailing and rowing and is home to ten, long established sailing clubs.
Newry , Mourne and Down District Council, SLLP, Sport NI, Down Coastal Rowing Clubs and Ards and North Down Borough Council, in association with the Scottish Coastal Rowing Association, look forward to welcoming about 50 boats and 1,000 participants from around the world, in July 2016. It’s going to be a brilliant and memorable week on the water and on the shore!
There will also be onshore activities at Delamont during the race week 25-30 July including an Artisan Food Fair on the 29 July which will be held within the Walled Garden of Delamont celebrating the NI year of Food & Drink. The picturesque villages of Strangford and Portaferry come alive on Saturday 30 July as the annual Strangford Lough Festival comes to town, rein-actors will bring the tower houses alive.
